Badges and Bouquets gives sponsored wedding to public safety officers

Deadline for entries is midnight Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – The idea for Badges and Bouquets, a contest that offers a fully sponsored wedding for public safety officers, came from Tina Humphrey, a certified event consultant who helped organize the program.

“I have quite a number of first responders in my immediate family, and saw their struggle trying to do just everyday normal things. I wanted to see if I could contribute to their community somehow,” Humphrey said.

Previous wedding winners include Nate and Sharee Irwin, who were married at the Hotel Valencia last September. Sharee is a state trooper in the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Megan and Jake Smith, a K-9 officer in Comal County, won a sponsored wedding in 2014, followed by San Antonio Park police officers Gabe and Gloria Flores, who won in 2015.

The contest is open to all full-time, active duty first responders. Official rules can be found on the website Badgesnbouquets.com.

This year's wedding will be in September. The deadline for entries is midnight Tuesday.
