Baptist Medical Center collects 1,000 boxes of cereal for food bank

Each box collected equivalent to about seven meals

SAN ANTONIO – Baptist Medical Center is celebrating its success in a local food drive.

On Friday, employees celebrated with a real-life human trophy, painted in gold, along with a Lego-like structure of more than 1,000 boxes of cereal that were collected for the San Antonio Food Bank.

As part of the Healthy Over Hungry Challenge, the donations will help reduce child hunger over the summer.

"We know when kids are not going to school in the summer, their free meals decrease a great deal," said John Vega, the administrative director of Baptist Medical Center. "So we try to supplement that by supporting the food bank and by having the cereal drive.”

Baptist Medical Center collected the most boxes of cereal in the entire Baptist Health System. Each box collected is equivalent to about seven meals.
