SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County commissioners on Tuesday approved a ban on outdoor burning in unincorporated Bexar County.
The burn ban goes into effect immediately and expires Oct. 23 unless conditions improve before then, county officials said.

Fire Marshal Chris Lopez said hot temperatures, high winds and high humidity can increase the risk of a brush fire and pose problems for outdoor burning.
Conditions are also expected to be dry for at least the next two weeks.
The burn ban restricts residents to burning household waste in burn barrels with metal wire mesh screens that prevent the spread of sparks and flames. The ban prohibits all other outdoor burning unless authorized by the fire marshal or burning for firefighting training, public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operations or harvesting of agricultural crops.
A violation of the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
