Multiple fire departments responded Saturday to a large fire near the intersection of 281 South and Loop 1604.
The fire started around 3 p.m. Saturday between a house and mobile home, both owned by Jesse Townsend.
Townsend's daughter and son-in-law were inside the mobile home when the fire started.
"I was in my house here and heard something. I looked out the back window and the corner of the house was on fire," Townsend said. "The way I saw, the fire started at the west end of the house and they were in the bedroom on the far east side of the home. They heard it and got out right away."
Smoke could be seen billowing from the home from miles away.
When crews arrived, they had to take a defensive position as the wind helped the fire spread quickly.
"Once we were able to get the fire mostly under control from the exterior in a defensive operation, we went into the interior again," said Bexar County District 2 Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Albert Castillo. "I consider it a wind-driven fire. At this time you have low relative humidity, you want to get a lot of resources here as quickly as possible."
Crews from Bexar County, Gardendale, Harmony and Somerset responded to the call.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
A damage estimate was unavailable.
