SAN ANTONIO -

A Bexar County inmate died Saturday night after he reportedly suffered a medical problem.

Johnny Mendoza, 47, was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Oct. 13 on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and theft.

Mendoza had serious existing injuries and was treated at University Hospital. He was then transferred on Oct. 16 to the jail's infirmary unit to continue treatment.

Bexar County sheriff's officials said Mendoza was found Saturday night in medical distress. He was taken to Downtown Baptist Hospital and pronounced dead around 11 p.m.

Bexar County sheriff's officials said there were no signs of foul play and the medical examiner has not released a cause of death.
