Bexar County remembers deputies killed in line of duty

Memorial held Friday for National Police Week

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office on Friday remembered those deputies killed in the line of duty.

A memorial service was held in honor of National Police Week.

A stream of portraits of the fallen deputies were displayed at a memorial outside the Bexar County Courthouse.

Friends and family attended the somber ceremony to remember the legacy of their loved ones.

“It helps,” said Virginia Jimenez, who lost her brother, Sgt. Kenneth Vann. “It immortalizes (him) and what he gave for the city and the people of San Antonio. Of course, it hurts a little. And it will always hurt.”

Friday’s event brought comfort, Jimenez said.

Vann was gunned down in his patrol car in 2011.

It’s important for the community to come together, to remember the heroes who paid the ultimate price, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said.
