SAN ANTONIO -

Eight people are in the Bexar County Jail this evening after being busted for cock fighting in far south Bexar County in the 1200 block of Green Gate.

Investigators say more people ran, leaving their cars behind.

Several roosters were found dead or seriously injured.

An anonymous tip led the sheriff's office to the cock fighting ring. County spokesman, Paul Berry says the sport was in progress when the bust happened.

"We made an arrest of eight people and approximately 15 other people fled the scene," said Berry.

Authorities say the suspects who fled the scene in such a rush left behind their vehicles and other cock fighting paraphernalia. After further investigation they discovered several roosters. Some were alive in pens, while others were dead with spurs still attached to them. No significant amounts of cash were found.

The homeowner was one of the eight arrested Saturday morning. They all face felony cock fighting charges.

Public works will pick up the surviving roosters.
