SAN ANTONIO -

A flaming car forced closure of I-35 for hours, but police say the people who crashed the vehicle are long gone.

The crash happened on 35 South near W. Pyron around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the people inside crashed the car into a retaining wall and it caught fire.

But those people didn't stick around.

Police say they ran from the blazing car before emergency crews arrived.

Firefighters put the flames out, but police had to shut the highway down for hours.

It has now re-opened.
