SAN ANTONIO -

A body that was found decomposed on the West Side Wednesday night is believed to be that of a missing Bexar County sheriff's deputy.

The body was found just after 9 p.m. at the Levi Strauss Park in the 5800 block of Old Highway 90 West.

San Antonio police were called to the scene after receiving a call about a body found inside a car parked in the area for days.

The body was taken to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office to be identified, but sources within the Bexar County Sheriff's Office told KSAT that the body is missing deputy John Salazar.

Salazar, 53, was last seen June 20 running errands in the Las Palmas area on the West Side.

BCSO spokesman Paul Berry said the body was found inside the missing deputy's car, but did not provide a positive identification.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and have not released any information regarding the case.
