SAN ANTONIO -

A body that was found decomposed on the West Side Wednesday night is believed to be that of a missing Bexar County sheriff's deputy.

The body was found just after 9 p.m. at a park police training facility in the 5800 block of Old Highway 90 West.

San Antonio police were called to the scene after security guards found a body inside a car parked in the area for days.

"There was a body found in this car, and the car does match the description and the license plate of the car that our deputy was last seen in," Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman Paul Berry said.

The body was taken to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office to be identified, but sources within the Bexar County Sheriff's Office told KSAT that the body is missing deputy John Salazar.

Salazar, 53, was last seen June 20 running errands in the Las Palmas area on the West Side.

"Police had seen that we had sent out a 'Be on the Lookout' with the car the and license plate, and they immediately called our detectives," Berry said.

The sheriff's office has taken over the investigation. Detectives are waiting for the medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
