The community of Boerne is remembering the life of Capt. Mark “Tyler” Voss, 27, who died on Friday after they KC-135 aircraft he was in crashed near Kyrgyzstan shortly after take-off.
Voss, along with Capt. Victoria Pinckney, 27, and Tech. Sgt. Herman Mackey III, 30, were also killed in the crash.
All three were members of the 93rd Refueling Squadron, and were headed to Afghanistan at the time of the incident.
“This will be the first time we lost one of our own, probably since World War II,” said Henry Schulte, pastor and long-time family friend of the Voss family. “This community is of one mind. Strongly committed to our nation, and strongly supportive of our military, in all aspects.”
Voss was a 2004 graduate of Boerne High School, and 2008 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
His family told KSAT 12 on Sunday that he always had dreams of becoming a pilot, and gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
