Boerne PD getting body cameras for officers

Nearly $50K grant from governor's office helped pay for cameras

BOERNE, Texas – The Boerne police department announced Friday the city will be adding body cameras for its officers.

Police Chief Jim Kohler said they department researched numerous types of cameras.

Kohler said they formed a committee and tested several models.

A $48,000 grant from the governor’s office helped fund the purchase. The department chipped in another $10,000 paid from money collected from criminal forfeitures.

All but one officer has been sent to training, which they said is a requirement.

The department said they hope to have the cameras in use in the next two months. The officers will also have an additional training class with the camera provider.  

The department is made up of 37 officers, including 16 officers and four sergeants who work on patrol.
