EDINBURG, Texas -

Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector seized more than $4 million worth of marijuana over the weekend.

After agents saw a vehicle with marijuana traveling away from the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed Saturday, a tire deflation device was deployed to disable the vehicle. The smugglers fled from the vehicle, leaving behind more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana.

Officials said agents also found nearly 1,200 pounds of marijuana in two vehicles that were parked at a house near Weslaco Sunday. Four people were arrested during that seizure.

Between other smaller seizures, officials said they confiscated a total of more than 5,000 pounds of marijuana over the weekend.
