SAN ANTONIO -

A 15-year-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday with a gunshot wound to his head after an early morning shooting at a Northwest Side apartment complex.
San Antonio police officers found the teen, Jeremy Trevino, in the back seat of a car in a parking lot on Bandera Road near Hillcrest Drive. He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
Police said two other teens were in the car with Jeremy who told officers the shooting had happened at another location.
About a half-mile away, police officers combed the grounds of the Woodlawn Ranch Apartments in the 300 block of W. Cheryl Avenue, where they believe the shooting happened.
Detectives said they found shell casings, a glass window and other items that they believe are connected to the shooting.
Rodney Mendoza, who lives in the complex, said he jumped out of bed around 6 a.m. after hearing tires screeching and a loud boom.
"I came out and there were some people out here and they heard gunshots," he said. "I saw a car pulling out that way, taking off that way. And then I went out to my porch and I saw a bunch of cops coming."
According to officers, the people who were in the car with Jeremy told them they were driving around the apartment complex waiting for another friend to come out when they suddenly heard gunshots.
"It wasn't until later that they found that one of the victims of that shooting was their friend in the backseat of the car," said San Antonio Police Department spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez.
No arrests have been made but police are hoping someone saw something that might help detectives.
"We don't have any information on any suspects, why this may have happened, so we're certainly making a public plea to anyone who had maybe seen anything or heard anything," Gutierrez said.
