Boy Scout troop camping trailer stolen from church parking lot

SAN ANTONIO – An assistant scoutmaster is asking whoever took his Boy Scouts of America Troop 435 camping trailer to return it.

"Somebody cut the chain and stole it," Greg Smith said.

The trailer, which was loaded with camping supplies, was stolen from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints parking lot in the 15200 block of Judson Road Saturday night.

Parts of a chain it was secured by were left behind. The 4x8 trailer could easily be seen from the street. It was locked up against a pole in the same spot for eight months.

"The boys are disappointed because they were looking forward to being able to decorate their own trailer and use it for Scouts," Smith said.

Fixing up the trailer was a fundraising effort. It had new tires and rims. Many of the items inside were previously donated to the troop.

"You can't put a price on that because this was the stuff they were looking forward to using," Smith said about the tents, sleeping bags and portable kitchens taken.

The 11- to 14-year-old boys who were going to use the trailer for trips will now have to buy all new camping gear, unless the person or people who stole it take it back.

Troop 423 now has a crowdfunding page set up. It can be found here.
