SAN ANTONIO -

A date has been set for the opening of The Briscoe Western Art Museum in downtown San Antonio.

The museum is scheduled to open its doors Saturday, Oct. 26.

The museum is named after late Texas Gov. Dolph Briscoe Junior and his wife Janey.

The museum will feature art of the American West, two buildings, a courtyard and a sculpture garden.

When visitors first walk in the door they will see the “Briscoe Bronze,” a 13-foot tall statue depicting an American Indian with buffalo on one side and a cowboy and cattle drive on the other side.

The installation of the statue shut down parts of Market Street and Presa Street so that it could be moved into the museum.

The Briscoe Western Art Museum is located at 210 Market Street.
