SAN ANTONIO -

San Antonio police attempting to arrest suspects in a check forging incident on Tuesday morning wound up with a much bigger bust than expected.

Four people were taken into custody after the SUV they were in was found to have crystal meth and marijuana and stereo equipment and other items that may have been stolen.

The incident unfolded at around 6:30 a.m. at the McDonald's parking lot at Marbach and 410.

Richard Angulo, who works nearby, said he was surprised to see police swarm the parking lot.

"There was about 10 cop cars this morning, a canine unit and they took everything out of the vehicle," he said.

The occupants of the SUV were wanted in connection to a check forgery incident at the HEB Plus at Marbach and 410.

"They were trying to forge a check to take some food," said Officer Joseph Guerrero.

Police said the suspects were seen leaving the scene in a black SUV. Officers were able to pull over the vehicle at the McDonald's parking lot across the street.

When investigators searched the SUV, they found drugs and items that were possibly stolen.

A husband and wife and another man and woman were arrested at the scene.

Police said one person was arrested in connection to the forgery incident, two others for narcotics and another for outstanding warrants.

They said some of the suspects have prior records for narcotics and theft. However, their names had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
