CHINA GROVE, Texas -

The city of China Grove's three-man police force has been suspended indefinitely after a vote Monday evening by the city council.

Mayor Eugene Ripps says Chief Larry Davis came to him weeks ago with concerns about the department.

Ripps would not elaborate on what the concerns were, but said the city is asking for help from the Texas Rangers to determine if anything criminal took place.

The police department did not have a proper employee policy manual, according to Ripps, and the council plans to create one -- possibly reaching out to other area departments to do so.

Ripps adds that beginning in June, the force was not patrolling as it should and a general lack of activity within the department was noticed.

A new city council was put in place in June.

The police force was made up of Chief Larry Davis, Officer Damian Balderas and Reserve Officer John Jenkins.

No word on when the council could establish a new force.

All law enforcement duties will be handled by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and Constable deputies within Precinct 4.

Residents were also informed of the suspension on the police department's Facebook page.

"We do not know the reasoning behind the disbandment but knew it would one day happen," the post stated.
