Cleanup underway in Maverick County after flooding

Heavy storms Thursday night led to cleanup, schools closures

MAVERICK COUNTY, Texas – Heavy storms Thursday night caused flooding in parts of Maverick County.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office said it made about 60 water rescues that night.

Classes were canceled at Eagle Pass schools and residents had to move to higher ground to escape the waters.

When they receded, the waters left the streets muddy and dirt-coated, forcing residents to hose and shovel away the filth.

In Eagle Pass, gym owner Gilberto Hierro checked out his building during the night to find several feet of water. Like other residents of Eagle Pass, he was cleaning up Friday.

“(I’m) cleaning all the stuff, all the things we needed, clean all the floors, everything,” Hierro said.

Many residents planned to continue cleaning the damage the flood left behind through the weekend.

No one was injured in the floods.
