Closing arguments set in trial of nightclub owner's accused killer

Faustino Vasquez on trial for murder of Pete Gonzales

SAN ANTONIO – Both the state and the defense rested their case Monday morning in the murder trial of Faustino Vasquez.

Vasquez, 34, is accused of shooting Pete Gonzales, 45, to death outside the 210 Kapone nightclub on East Houston Street that Gonzales owned.

The state’s final witness on Monday was Felisha Gonzales, the victim’s sister. She told the court about an early morning phone call she got the day her brother was killed.

“About 2 a.m., I got the call and I was waking up out of a stupor and my sister told me that my brother had been shot," Felisha Gonzales testified.

Felisha Gonzales said that by the time she got to the hospital her brother had died.

Witness said that Vasquez had been thrown out of the club that night after a fight. They said as he drove away, he stopped, stepped from his car and fired several shots. One hit and killed Pete Gonzales.

Vasquez was arrested several days later by members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

If he is found guilty, Vasquez faces a maximum punishment of life in prison.
