COMFORT, Texas -

Authorities in Kendall County arrested a Comfort man Monday evening after a standoff that lasted nearly 8 hours.

The suspect was identified as Chad Lane. He was charged with aggravated assault to a peace officer with a deadly weapon, and booked into the Kendall County Jail.

The incident began Monday morning when Kendall County deputies did a wellness check at Lane's home. Lane's estranged wife was worried about him after she found out he was suicidal. Deputies said Lane may have been upset over problems in his marriage.

Deputies located Lane and he reportedly pulled a gun on them, beginning a standoff. Officials say Lane was also intoxicated at the time.

After several hours and many attempts to get Lane to come out on his own, a flash bang was thrown in the house by SWAT because negotiations were at a standstill.

"He did not go peacefully. As a matter a fact, EMS was checking him out and he was acting up at that time. He's intoxicated, he's been drinking pretty much all day from what we can tell he's not in his right state of mind," said Sheriff Al Auxier with the Kendall Co. Sheriff's Office.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies and SWAT were assisting Kendall County sheriff's officials. The Texas Department of Public Safety also dispatched officials to the area. No one else was believed to be inside the home at the time.
