SAN ANTONIO -

The Loop 1604 ramp to Northbound Interstate 35 will be closed starting Sunday, Sept. 8.

The multimillion-dollar Texas Department of Transportation project will be adding support structures to the new northbound exit ramp from I-35 to Forum Parkway.

Restaurant-owners nearby say the construction could cause them to lose some of their daily customers.

“It’s going to affect us because we’re going to slow down. Traffic is going to go a different way. A lot of drivers aren’t going to stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner,” said Flacos Burgers and Tacos owner Irma Escobar.

The closure will last about a month.

Traffic will instead exit Pat Booker Road and follow the frontage road through the Forum Parkway intersection.

The shutdown will affect traffic on Loop 1604 in both directions.

Beau Roby, president of Mama’s Café, says this won’t be the first time construction has affected business.

“I’ve had it happen to me three times here in San Antonio, so it's never fun, but we’ve always been able to get through it. Hopefully this time, people will want to get to us bad enough that they’ll figure it out,” said Roby.

The ramps from Loop 1604 are expected to re-open by October.

TxDOT officials say the northbound exit to Forum Parkway from I-35 will be finished before the holiday shopping season.
