Just a few hours after Dr. Calvin Day was sentenced to house arrest and probation in a sexual assault case, police said his son, 29-year-old Zachary Day committed suicide on I-10. He was struck by an 18-wheeler around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Day embraced a woman on the steps of the Bexar County Jail after being released so he could start planning his son’s funeral.
He not only was emotional about his son's sudden death, but he was also upset that it appeared to have been brought on by his sexual assault trial that just wrapped up today.
"The woman who made this false accusations is all the result of her and I'm going to get a new trial and go back through it and we will demonstrate it's all on her," said Day.
According to police, Zachary Day parked his vehicle on I-10 near La Cantera Parkway when he was struck by an 18-wheeler.
According to witnesses, one of them being a police officer, Day was seen standing behind his truck and looking at traffic go by.
Witnesses said Day then determined Day committed suicide.
"She's ruined my family and now she's killed my son," said Day.
The doctor was sentenced to house arrest for 180 days for sexually assaulting a patient in 2010. If Day fails to comply with his probation, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
Day will also have to pay a $10,000 fine and do 300 hours of community service.
Day will lose his medical license and he'll have to register as a sex offender. Day is appealing his conviction.
