There are several functions of the Big Blue Bus.

One is community outreach, where customers can sign up for assistance programs with CPS.

The mobile support center can also be sent out to help with storm response in San Antonio.

"So if there is an extended outage here in our service territory,” Maria Garcia, vice president of community and key accounts engagement, said, “we're able to mobilize and it becomes a mobile command center for our crews. But also our customers can view outage maps on either side of the vehicle, because it has some pretty big screens, and they can come up and charge their phones, their electronic devices."

The mobile unit is also equipped to help storm victims around the nation.

The plan for this type of tool had been in the works for three year,s and came in at a cost of $300,000.

CPS Energy has had the vehicle since January, but waited to add several safety features before rolling it out to the public.
