Child Protective Services is reaching out to local hairstylists to take part in a volunteer event for San Antonio's foster children.

CPS is preparing for its annual "Hair-A-Thon" on August 19.

Organizers are hoping to hear from stylists who specialize in ethnic hair braiding, because many of the foster children are African-American. They hope to educate their foster parents on how to care for the child's hair, as well as teach children what products to use on their hair.

"It's something the children really look forward to, and we look forward to trying to provide for them, with the things they are hoping for in that hairstyle," said Mary Walker from CPS.

Approximately 150 children are expected at the event, to be held at the Aveda Institute's new location on the city's far north side.
