Fire crews battle intense flames at 2-story home west of downtown

Fire was reported in 2600 block of W. Houston, near N. Calaveras St

SAN ANTONIO – A house located just west of downtown was destroyed by an overnight fire, fire officials said Wednesday.

The fire was reported around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of West Houston Street, not far from North Calaveras Street.

Firefighters said when they arrived they found the two-story home covered in flames.

Investigators said the home is listed as being vacant but that there may have been squatters living inside. At this time, there are no reported injuries.

An arson investigation team is bringing canines later Wednesday to search for accelerants and possible victims, officials said.

The home is described as a total loss.
