Near west SA man wanted for 'grab and run' thefts

Fidel Lopez, 25, accused of stealing clothes from Sears, Macy's

SAN ANTONIO – Over the course of one year, San Antonio police said Fidel Lopez committed two "grab and run" thefts at stores about one mile away from each other. Now, police are hoping to catch Lopez before he can strike again.

Lopez, 25, is accused of walking into Macy's at North Star Mall on Jan. 15, 2015, and heading straight for the clothing.

"Lopez grabbed clothing from the Macy's and there was a getaway car waiting for him in the parking lot," said SAPD Lieutenant Frank Martinez.

Five months later, police said Lopez struck again at the Sears at 622 NW Loop 410 - right across San Pedro from Macy's. This time, police said, he didn't have a getaway driver. He reportedly borrowed his ex-wife's car.

"He went out there and left his car running. A very astute security guard noticed (Lopez's) behavior and recognized him, so the security guard went over to the car and disabled the car by removing the keys from the ignition," Martinez said. "When Lopez had the clothing in his hands, he went out to the car to get away, he was not able to."

Martinez said Lopez left the clothes in the trunk and ran from the scene.

Lopez is 5'5" tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has tattoos on his arms, chest and neck. CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE PHOTOS OF FIDEL LOPEZ

Officers with SAPD's Repeat Offender Program have looked for Lopez in the area of N. Zarzamora and W. Poplar Streets, but haven't found him.

"Because he's gotten away with it a couple of times that we know of, we know that as a human being, he's a creature of habit. He's probably going to go back to his old ways," said Martinez. "It's a matter of time before he strikes again."

If you have any information on Lopez's whereabouts, call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP. You could receive a reward if your information leads to his arrest.
