Crowds gathered near San Pedro Spring Park to march for Earth Day, science

SAN ANTONIO – People gathered in cities around the world to celebrate Earth Day and support science. Crowds gathered Saturday morning at San Pedro Spring Park to march in solidarity.

The group in San Antonio marched about a 2-mile route that began and ended at the park. At the end of the demonstration, there was a science showcase near the gazebo.

The gathering was a chance for science enthusiasts to network with other local aspiring and professional scientists.

Some students said they believe the fact that the march coincided with Earth Day will help draw awareness to the cause.

“Science isn't only based on medical or even something dental related. It affects our planet. It affects every aspect of our lives, honestly,” said Mylea Echazarrata, a biology student at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The group organizers said they wanted to demonstrate their passion for science and express concern about recent governmental policy changes.
