SAN ANTONIO -

Pressure from his father caused 19-year-old John Lopez to confess to being involved in the robbery of a cab driver earlier this month, according to San Antonio police.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Lopez turned himself in on Friday to face a charge of aggravated robbery.

It stated that Lopez also identified two brothers –Timothy Alvarez, 17, and Joseph Alvarez, 20—as being involved in the crime.

The robbery reportedly happened June 11 after a Yellow Cab was dispatched to the Billy Mitchell apartments in the 200 block of Croyden.

The driver picked up three men who directed him to the 300 block of Ashley Drive where they robbed him, the affidavit stated.

Police said Lopez told them he was the person who took a GPS device from the cab, while the other two suspects used a broken bottle to rob the driver of about $80 in cash, the affidavit stated.

After the robbery, detectives aired surveillance video of the robbery on local news channels.

They said Lopez told them his father recognized him during the broadcast and convinced him to confess, the affidavit stated.
