SAN ANTONIO -

A family is putting their life back together after a fire ripped through their home Monday. It happened in the 900 block of Fabulous on the city's north side.

Rebecca Overdorf was in the neighborhood visiting relatives when she saw flames lighting up the night sky.

"They were pretty high, they were pretty high that we were worried about the trees overhead," said Overdorf.

It started just after 7 p.m. Monday. Arson investigators believe the fire started in the attic and may have been electrical.

"When we got here, it already burned through the roof of the garage part where it's single story," said SAFD Chief Hildreth. "The flames started spreading not into the house, but into the wall and a little bit into the attic of the second floor."

Overdorf is glad no one was home at the time, but she says this will still be very difficult for the family since Christmas is just two days away.

"That's the blessing, everyone is safe, nobody was home, but it's their house and it's gone, " said Overdorf.

Firefighters estimate damage to the home to be close to $100,000. They say family will be staying with relatives while portions of their home are rebuilt.
