Decades of support helps woman on dialysis

Delores Muhlstein, 79, says infection killed her kidneys at 38

SAN ANTONIO – A 79-year-old woman is marking a special milestone Monday -- 42 years on dialysis.

Delores Muhlstein has lived with chronic kidney disease since 1975.

She says an infection killed her kidneys at age 38.

The Fresenius Kidney Care Lockehill Clinic on Huebner Road helped her celebrate the milestone with cake and punch today.

Muhlstein said she is grateful for all of the support she's received from others.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, one in three American adults are at risk for developing kidney disease. The two leading causes of kidney disease are high blood pressure and diabetes.
