SAN ANTONIO -

Weddings are a stressful time for everyone involved, but one local bride said she is going crazy after her special day was ruined by a travel agent with a criminal background.

Dana Shaw, the bride-to-be, and several of her family members booked a trip to Mexico through an independent travel agent back in March for the wedding that was supposed to take place next week.

"It was going to be a dream wedding and it's just turned into a nightmare very, very quickly," Shaw said.

The bride thought she was going to exchange vows on June 15 with her fiancé, Randy, on a 52-foot yacht in the crystal blue waters off Cancun.

Shaw and her guests booked the yacht, their flights and their stay at an all-inclusive resort through Vicki Garza, a childhood friend of Shaw's who was working as a home based travel agent.

"We were very excited and it was something the entire family was going to be there for," Shaw said. "It was spectacular and it was just beautiful."

Shaw said a total of 22 people paid Garza roughly $30,000 for the travel package.

As the date grew near Shaw's guests began to worry when they didn't get any tickets or confirmation for the trip.

"If you pay something 100% then you get your tickets, you get your confirmation, you get everything," Shaw said. "Well, that was almost three months ago now and not one person has received confirmations, tickets, a packet, we didn't receive anything. I was promised they were FedExed then I never received them."

When they couldn't get Garza to produce the documents they needed, Shaw called the airline and the hotel.

"They had no reservations for us. They didn't have any of our names. They didn't have anything," Shaw said.

Garza said she didn't do anything wrong. She said the host company she worked for, Outside Agents, messed up the booking.

She said "the confirmation numbers were incorrect" and the reservations were booked in groups but not under individual names so the reservations "couldn't be verified" by the customers.

When KSAT 12 contacted Chad Burt, one of the owners of Outside Agents, he said Garza was once an independent agent but she had "never submitted any bookings to them" adding she was "suspended in March for inactivity."

Garza said she was trying to make things right when Dana and her guests canceled the trip.

While investigating this story, KSAT 12 learned Vicki Garza (aka Victoria Garza Velasquez) has a history of issuing hot checks and theft by check dating back to 1995.

According to court records from Hays County she currently has 4 active warrants for her arrest there plus one more in Comal County.

Shaw and her family members have filed a police report with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office for theft of services.

Garza said on Tuesday she was in the process of reversing the charges on all the credit cards and said she will return all of the money.

Shaw and her family members don't expect to get anything back from Garza, but they are working with their credit card companies to get the fraudulent charges removed.

While it's unclear if Garza ever booked the trip one thing is clear, Shaw's wedding dreams are shattered.

"I'm a complete wreck. I haven't slept in 4 days," Shaw said. "This should be our happiest moment right now and it's one of my saddest. My wedding is ruined. I can't even start to plan another wedding. I'm too upset. How do you plan a wedding in a week?"
