Defenders: CPS responds to estimate complaints
CPS Energy said it will hire more meter readers, do fewer estimations
After customer complaints about CPS Energy estimating usage in some homes, the company has said it will hire more contract meter readers to get actual readings for customers.
On its Facebook page, CPS Energy employees have been responding to posts from people who aren't happy about the estimated bills.
In one reply, an employee named Kate explained, "We are hiring more contract meter readers in February, and should catch up on reads estimated in December or January soon."
On a CPS Energy blog, the company said about 30% of its readings are automated. CPS Energy said it was working to make all customer meters automated, so actual readers and estimates won't be necessary.
"As automated meters are installed system-wide, estimated bills will become a thing of the past. Meter reading will be safer for employees, less invasive for customers, more accurate and cost effective," the blog said.
