A San Antonio wedding services provider has gone out of business, leaving brides and grooms fuming and wondering where their money is.
ZSR Event Productions owner Zach Rice sent an email out to clients recently saying the company was going out of business.
Noemi De La Cruz is getting married to Andre Andalcio in October and contracted with ZSR for services.
"We went in and we took advantage of his Bridal Extravaganza deal and we paid $895," De La Cruz said. “We signed up to do linens also, so we paid him another $646.”
She paid ZSR for a professional DJ and added linens for a total of more than $1,500.
Andalcio said the email came with no mention of a refund.
"At least refund the money to all the people that are all left scrambling for other options," Andalcio said. “We're scrambling to recover that money and he's been out of touch, not up front at all about it.”
The email provided a list of DJs and photo booth providers the clients could contact for their weddings.
Two of those vendors, when contacted by the Defenders, said they are also owed money by ZSR.
Meanwhile, the ZSR office is empty and the door was locked.
In the email, there were no answers from Rice, who wrote that this was deeply regrettable and offered sincerest apologies.
Martha Reyes found an online deal for ZSR and signed up for services.
"I thought I had a contract, I was protected,” Reyes said. “Now, who can you trust?"
Reyes saw ZSR's ad in the San Antonio Wedding Guide and rented a photo booth.
She is also a member of the new Facebook group Brides Against ZSR.
"We want justice,” Reyes said. “We want our money back.”
Asked if Rice should be charged with a crime, Reyes said, “I believe so. It's a (case) of fraud. He lied to everybody."
She said Rice was soliciting new clients right up until he shut the business down.
Attorney Adam Cortez is representing Rice and ZSR and said Rice is filing for bankruptcy and said he doesn't know if the brides and grooms will get their money back.
There is no word on whether any of the money given to ZSR will be refunded.
