Driver tells Bexar County deputies 'That was fun' after chase

Man taken into custody near Judson High School

CONVERSE, Texas – After leading Bexar County sheriff's deputies on a nearly half hour-long chase, a driver reportedly told them, "That was fun."

The deputies caught up with the 22-year-old man after his car hit a curb near Judson High School, in the parking lot of Rutledge Stadium.

They said they originally had tried to stop him around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday near Gibbs Sprawl Road and Crestway, but the driver kept going. The chase took deputies through Converse, into parts of Schertz and back.

At some points as they traveled along neighborhood streets, they said, it became a slow-speed chase. However, at other times, they reached speeds of up to 60 mph. A Department of Public Safety helicopter flew overhead the whole time, helping deputies stay on the man's trail.

Deputies said they even deployed spike strips, hoping to stop the driver, but he was able to avoid them.

When his car hit the curb near the stadium, deputies closed in and arrested the man, whose name was not released right away.  He faces criminal charges including evading arrest.
