The storm didn't last long, but the damage it did to homes in southwest Bexar County is significant.

Residents along Old Pearsall Rd., Quintana Rd., Loop 1604 and in Von Ormy took a serious hit.

Powerful winds and hail battered the area as the storm hit after 6 p.m. Friday.

Saturday morning residents used chain saws to cut downed trees away from their homes and cars.

And they assessed the damage from large hail that pummeled their property, and homes, businesses and vehicles across a large area of south Texas.

The storm also devastated an animal shelter in Von Ormy.

The shelter director says high winds and hail destroyed enclosures.

Some dogs are dead and others missing.

Bexar County reports emergency management crews out assessing damage from the storm.

A county spokesperson says three families received assistance from the Red Cross after the storm. The county is working to assist those families with housing.

The county also reports one man injured when his roof collapsed on him.

He went to the hospital for treatment.
