Holding a candle, Samantha Gutierrez couldn't fight back the tears as she remembered her good friend Megan Hernandez.
Gutierrez still can't believe the teen mom was killed so maliciously.
"It's sad. She was a good mom she never gave up on her family," said Gutierrez.
Police said Hernandez was stabbed multiple times Tuesday afternoon by her ex-boyfriend Eduardo Reyes while she held their child Aaliyah.
"They would always be fighting. He would pinch her sometimes and give her bruises, but I never knew it would go this far," said Gutierrez.
Several family and friends Wednesday night remembered Hernandez at the South Side bus stop where she was killed. They said prayers and released balloons. They want everyone to know Hernandez was a good mom who had dreams of one day becoming a nurse.
"She had one goal Lord Father God, and that was to be the best mama, and the best daughter," said Hernandez's aunt Marybelle Hernandez.
Across town at Kennedy High School, where she once attended, a separate vigil was held with former classmates.
But baby Aaliyah is now who everyone is thinking about.
"After I found out, I ran here and I got here, and I got the baby, that's what Megan would have wanted me to do," said Marybelle Hernandez.
"And it hurts to see her gone but we're never going to forget her ever, ever, ever. We're never going to forget her," said Gutierrez.
Eduardo Reyes remains at the Bexar County Jail. He's been charged with murder, endangering a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
A memorial fund has been set up at Por Vida Academy, a charter school where the victim was a sophomore.
