SAN ANTONIO - A man is facing serious charges after a deadly wreck on the city's Southwest Side on Monday night, authorities said.

Police said 29-year-old Esteban de la Cruz is charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.

The crash happened on Somerset Road near Southwest Military Drive.

Police say de la Cruz lost control of the car, hit a concrete and metal fence and the car landed upside down.

De la Cruz was helped out of the car and then took off, leaving his passenger, 34-year-old Martin Cruz, in the car.

Cruz died at the scene. Once police caught up to de la Cruz and arrested him, they said he seemed to be intoxicated.
