Driver flees crash that sends 3 to hospital

2 children, driver injured in crash on Commercial Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – A 26-year-old man and two children were hospitalized late Sunday night after two-vehicle crash on the South Side.

The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. in the 2700 block of Commercial Avenue.

San Antonio police said a man driving south in a pickup truck made a left turn in front of a white SUV and both vehicles collided.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV driver to lose control, hit a curb and a sign pole, police said.

The SUV driver hit his head on the windshield and was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

The two children in the SUV were also transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene on foot, police said. SAPD dispatched its Blue Eagle helicopter to search for the pickup driver, but he had not been located as of 8 a.m.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
