SAN ANTONIO -

A man was hospitalized early Tuesday morning after police say he was struck twice by a driver outside a south San Antonio bar.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. outside T.C.'s Sports Bar at Commercial Avenue and Formosa.

A witness told police the driver was headed down the road with a trash can stuck underneath his pickup when the victim began banging on the truck and yelled for him to stop.

The victim's wife attempted to stop her husband, but the victim was was struck by the truck. The driver then backed over the victim before fleeing the scene.

Several people attempted to follow the driver, but he managed to drive away.

Police, however, believe the incident began as the victim and his wife were outside arguing in the parking lot of the bar.

Officers said the suspected driver intervened during the fight, then got into a fight with the husband.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, but later upgraded to stable condition.

Police checked several addresses looking for the driver, but had not located him.
