SAN ANTONIO – A 52-year-old man found dead Thursday morning after an apparent fall from an elevated Northwest Side highway onramp had been having car trouble.
A San Antonio police officer at the scene said accident investigators determined his car had run out of gas.
Officers found the car on an elevated onramp leading from Interstate 10 East to Loop 1604 West. They had received a call around 6 a.m. about an injured or sick person on the access road below it when they found the body of the man.
Police said he appeared to have suffered a head injury. They did not know right away whether that was a result of the fall or from being hit by another car.
The victim's car was unlocked.
Police suspect that the man fell hours before his body was discovered, possibly as early as Wednesday night. They said it's surprising no one noticed him earlier. The man was dressed in a bright orange shirt and lying in the middle of the highway access road, police said.
During the investigation, police shut down some of the highway onramps in the area, causing other drivers to reroute.
Although their investigation is still underway, police said the man's death appeared to have been an accident.
