A young girl was found safe in a West Bexar County home hours after police said a suspect fled the scene of a botched drug deal with her in the back seat of a car.

The incident began at Elmendorf Lake Park in the 3700 block of West Commerce early Thursday afternoon.

A 28-year-old man, who was caring for the young girl, attempted to sell drugs to undercover park police, officials said.

When they identified themselves and arrested him, a 26-year-old man who was with him took off in the original suspect's car with the young girl, police said.

Police were not able to catch the second suspect but tracked him down to a home in the 6200 block of Luckey Run in West Bexar County, where they received assistance from the Bexar County Sheriffs department.

"(Park) officers were able to get information at the scene from other people that were there," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar. "That information was relayed to the San Antonio Regional Intelligence Center, or SARIC. SARIC was able to follow up on some information that led them (to the home)."

Inside the home, they arrested the 26-year-old and found the young girl. She was examined by EMTs but was not hurt. Police contacted Child Protective Services shortly after locating the girl.

"They're going to be making the determination on who is a relative, who is not and to whom that child is going to be released unless she's taken into custody by CPS," said Salazar.

Both men face child endangerment charges. Drug charges are pending a search of the vehicle which was inside the garage of the home where the second suspect was found.
