A 25-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DWI after he crashed his car into a utility pole and knocked out power to part of a northwest San Antonio neighborhood.
Police said the driver, Jesse Longoria, had a blood alcohol content higher than .15 when he crashed in the 6300 block of Babcock Road near Prue Road.
Longoria told officers he was studying for his finals at UTSA and was rushing home around 2:40 a.m. Thursday when he fell asleep.
He lost control of his car, rolled over and crashed into the pole. The pole snapped in half and hit a fire hydrant, San Antonio police said.
"It's fortunate he wasn't killed himself or he didn't hurt anybody else. In these types of accidents, it happens at times where these drivers take out other people,” said Roger Zuniga, patrol officer for the San Antonio Police Department.
According to police, the crash caused an estimated $100,000 of damage, including $1,800 for SAWS, $35,000 for CPS Energy and $65,000 for AT&T.
