An early morning fire did heavy damage to an East Side home Sunday.
It happened around 4:45 a.m. in the 200 block of Blue Bonnet Street.
Annette Williams said she was asleep when she heard a loud pop in her kitchen.
“When I heard the noise I got up to see what it was, and when I went into the kitchen it was like a little small fire,” Williams said. “I tried to get the fire extinguisher to work, but I was pulling it and the pin wouldn’t come out.”
Williams said the flames quickly spread to a shelf where she stores cooking spray.
“One of them (blew) and it flew off the shelf,” Williams said. “That’s when I just ran out of the house and screamed for help.”
Much of the inside of Williams’ home was destroyed.
“One of the big challenges to this fire was wall-to-wall contents, floor-to-ceiling contents which made it difficult in there,” said firefighter Connie Hall. “The fire also got into the attic.”
Damage is estimated at $80,000.
