Ex-Southside ISD teacher accused of child sexual assault
Arrest comes over 2 years after alleged incident
The arrest of a former teacher in the Southside Independent School District charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child comes just over two years after the alleged incident.
Jorge Topete, district spokesman, said 43-year-old Raymond Casillas resigned from Julius L. Matthey Middle School soon afterward.
"This teacher has not been with our district for over a year," Topete said.
He said students and parents were not told at the time about the allegations.
"When there is a need, parents get notified. If it's an allegation, and it's under investigation, they may not," Topete said.
He said a letter has now been sent to parents about the arrest without mentioning Casillas' name, but it does suggest parents speak to their children about the importance of reporting any incident to them, school officials, or law enforcement.

The accusations against Casillas, who is free on a $75,000 bond, include groping and fondling a student who was 13 at the time, in his classroom.
The district did not confirm social media postings that Casillas had been with the district since 2007 and became chairman of the school's English department.
