The sister of a murder victim was shocked to see a Facebook post that said the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit was being disbanded.
The post was written by a cold case detective with the sheriff’s office.
It reads: “The B.C.S.O. COLD CASE UNIT BEING DISBANDED: I have been informed that our Unit, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office B.S.C.O. COLD CASE UNIT is going to be abolished. As of today I have not heard anything different but will keep you posted if any favoring changes come through. Know that this IS NOT a bad reflection of our leadership but something that is out of their control due to certain reasons. We have been successful since the inception of the Cold Case Unit to open up Unsolved Murder Cases and were able to solve many of them. Recently, some were just weeks away from solving. I ask that you keep in prayer the victims, their mothers, fathers, family and friends. My hope and prayer is that these cases are not placed back in the shelves of the Cold Case Files for the victims/families sake."
A sheriff’s office spokesman could not confirm the report Sunday, but said senior leadership within the sheriff’s office would meet this week to discuss the office’s budget for the 2014 fiscal year.
On Tuesday the Bexar County Commissioner’s Court allocated approximately $120 million dollars for the sheriff’s office for the 2014 fiscal year.
