Fallen SA firefighter Scott Deem to be laid to rest today

Funeral scheduled for 1 p.m. at Community Bible Church

SAN ANTONIO – Family, friends and firefighters from across the country will crowd into a church Friday to memorialize the life of San Antonio firefighter Scott Deem.

Deem's funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Community Bible Church at 2477 North Loop 1604 East.

The San Antonio Fire Department will be leading a procession of about 130 apparatus that will leave at 9 a.m. from Alamodome Lot B and proceed up Highway 281 to the church.

"We are anticipating a large group of fire trucks from all over," Hood said earlier this week.

The family procession will leave at 11 a.m. from Porter Loring and will pass the Alamo and proceed to the church.

The public is invited to the funeral, but Hood said space and parking will be limited. Overflow parking and shuttle service will be available at Cornerstone Church at Loop 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway.

Speakers expected to make addresses at the funeral include Mayor Ivy Taylor, Fire Chief Charles Hood and fire union President Chris Steele.

At the family's request, the burial will be private.

Deem was killed May 18 battling a fire at a shopping center on Ingram Road.
