SAN ANTONIO -

An out of-control car veered from one side of Loop 1604 to the other, causing crashes that shut down the highway and left a man dead.

The crashes happened just after 7 p.m. Monday on 1604 near Hausman Rd.

Police say a person driving eastbound lost control and veered into the westbound lanes of 1604. They say that driver then hit at least three cars.

Police say one vehicle burst into flames, but they did not say if that was the car that caused the crashes, or if the fatality was from that vehicle.

Investigators closed both sides of 1604 near the crash site while they gathered evidence.

The eastbound side was re-opened around 9 p.m., but the westbound lanes remained closed.

Officers got all traffic off that westbound stretch of highway at Kyle Seale Parkway. The crash remains under investigation.

The name or age of the man who died has not been released by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
