SAN ANTONIO -

A Fort Sam Houston soldier who died on post over the weekend has been identified.

The victim was identified as Spc. Ian Patrick Morgan, 28.

According to a Fort Sam news release, Morgan was assigned to 56th Signal Company.

Morgan was found early Sunday morning in a stairwell outside his barracks. He was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he died.

"The community here at Fort Sam Houston is saddened by the death of Specialist Morgan," said Lt. Gen. Perry L. Wiggins, commanding general U. S. Army North and senior commander Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis. "We've lost a member of our Army. On behalf of all the men and women who serve here, our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with his family at this time."

Military officials didn't release any other details regarding Morgan's death.
