The father of a baby boy who died over the weekend spoke out Tuesday for the first time since his son's death.
9-month-old Michael Sanchez was found dead around 10 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 5000 block of Casa Verde Street in northeast San Antonio.
A witness told police Sanchez reportedly drowned, however, he was found in a crib wrapped in wet blankets.
It was unclear how long Sanchez had been dead and his body was taken to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
The baby's father, Michael Sanchez Sr., believes this tragedy could have been prevented.
"It just don't make sense. I don't understand how CPS can sit here and allow this to happen," Sanchez said. "They should have took action a long time ago and my son would still be alive."
The child had previously been under a safety plan through Child Protective Services. The plan was not a court order, but an agreement which required the child to be watched over by a relative or close friend.
The baby's cause of death is still pending and under investigation by CPS and San Antonio police.
